pitty steal?
Seriously, sometimes I think it needs to be done. Had my hands on an only partially locked beasty in glasgow 2weeks ago, was something pretty nice (mish mash of parts but nice) with decent looking D lock through front wheel and down tube, so could wheel away. Poked at it for long enough seeing what was what, then the guy turned up wondering why I was prodding his bike. He then realised he hadn't actually locked it to the bike station thing and did so, but wasn't happy about it. Like it was my fault for making him come out of his office and lock his bike properly. I should have taken it, would have saved me my bus fares for those few days :/
What the hell? I'd be quite angry too if I saw someone prodding at my bike because it obviously looks like that person wants to steali it.
You seem very frustrated here as well... no matter how badly someone locks (or doesn't) lock his or her bike, you have no right to take it. -

I lived in the Harringay Ladder (the streets North of Finsbury Park, west of Green Lanes, east of the railway) too and really quite liked it. It's cheap, it's got alright transport in case you can't use your bike, it's got the big Sainsbury's, loads of local food places and Finsbury Park itself.
If you're working in Kentish Town, also check out Kilburn/West Hampstead/Stoke Newington where rent shouldn't be too high and it's all pretty close to work.
Yeah there are people who don't really seem to care about those bikes costing you quite a lot if you don't return them pretty quickly.
Anyway if you think it's stolen you might as well write down the numbers on them and check with TfL if you want to be good. :)
