just out of curiosity Roaders, why carry a mini pump if you don't carry a repair kit or spare tubes? if you puncture, you can't fix it so a pump is pretty worthless. just make sure your tyres are at pressure before you leave the house in the morning and you're set...
Saying that i'd chuck a repair kit and some tyre levers in your bag/pocket and keep the mini pump.

If I get a slow puncture - happened once and I topped up on the way home. I do also have Tyre levers and patches in my bag as they are so small and light.

Sorry.
Didn't know that being an adrenalin junkie meant pushing your bike to work for two and a half fucking hours.
All I do is pack a bit of shit with me then get on with riding.
It's not difficult.
Over the last twelve years of riding I've been caught out in the shittiest places in the shittiest conditions, sometimes 60 or 70 miles from home. I know what I'm on about
Probably reads as dull to someone who does half a mile a day.Was that directed at me? I don't know where you got the impression that I am an adrenaline junkie. I cycle to work so I can become a not quite as big a bloke on a bike. If I was cycling 70 miles through the middle of nowhere then I would certainly take more stuff with me but 12 miles through the middle of London means that if something goes wrong I can normally get to a bike shop.

I don't bother carrying spare chainlinks but not having a spare tube or basic repair kit is a bit silly... and you can buy a decent mini-pump for the price of 4 days' travel cards.
I do have a mini-pump as it's attached to my frame. I also have a set of Allen keys and a screw driver. Tubes are a bit bulkier so I don't bother any more. Since I got better tyres I've not had any punctures.

General, the saddle bag this is a nice idea but do you leave it on the bike all the time or take it off when you stop? My bike is chained up on the street all day so I'm sure that would get lifted pretty soon. I don't want another thing that I have to attach to to the bike each time I ride and has to be carried into the office and stored.
I got some SPDs last week (shimano mountain bike ones) and I really like them. I've got used to them pretty quickly and have nearly got the adjusment right so I feel as comfortable as non-spds when cycling.
They squeek though! Mostly my right foot just as it has gone past the top of it's travel and I am just starting to apply pressure down. My left does a bit sometimes too.
I have tried pedallign with my right foot not clipped in (the other side of my pedal is a normal pedal) and I don't get the noise.
I have tried tightening the cleats but it didn't seem to help.
Is this normal? It's quite annoying!
