I'm looking for a nice bike for a girl friend. She's about 5'2" so I guess a 48cm frame would be ideal, 50 at a push.
Preferably single speed as she'd easily meet her death riding fixed, at least for now. It would need two brakes or at least the capacity to house a rear brake. Riser bars ideally too.
Her budget is £300, but could stretch a bit more for a tidy product. Something solid, nippy and easy on the eye would be great - can anyone help out? We're in the Hackney Road area.

contrary to popular belief, walton's (next town up) beaches are nicer. plus they can legally sell ice cream and the pubs are aloud to play music! as you say though, frinton's a lovely place to chill out for a bit/retire/die

i grew up in frinton. nothing happens there. i mean absolutely nothing.
Just picked up an '05 Principia road bike to trial before I buy, but it's without seat & post. Does anyone have both to sell fairly cheaply, if not just the post?
I'm in Brentford but will gladly travel to collect.
