Hi all
posted some pics over in 'current projects' of my colnago I have just finished putting together, but I could do with some help in identification.
Possibly its a Master of some sort - all I know is it originally was used by a belgian team (has race number peg under top tube). It wears 'art-decor' style paint which has been done to a high standard, but it only has plain chrome to rear drop-outs not the more common painted style.
BB has colnago name plate with rectangular slot underneath, top of seat stays have cloverleaf stamping - rear brake cable is routed through top tube with both entry/exit point on top of tube. seat-tube, downtube, and toptube all are 'Gilco' style with 4 crimps.
I'm thinking its date would be somewhere early 90's ?

thanks for the tip on the BB - never used one of these 'new fangled' outboard bearing style units, always been a square taper guy !
took the bike out for a 50 miler today and I have got to say for an oldie she rides absolutely fantastic - i think swapping over to 25mm tyres has also had an effect on ride comfort.

cheers for the comments - can see from pics that bars are a bit out of level so that will be sorted tomorrow before ride.
Only reason for raceface chainset is that I managed to pick one up at a great price and they are nice and strong - I know what you mean about a bit to MTB, maybe in future will look to swap out for a black alloy Campagnolo of some sort.

So, project started about 18 months ago with a head-on crash with a car that wrote off my lovely 1950's Sun wasp that I had spent ages building (Grrr..)
never mind - always wanted a steel Colnago, so managed to find a frame for sale via ebay. Believed to be a Master Piu that was used by pro-team on the continent (possibly Belgium), To be honest I was not sure on the colours and plan was to have frame stripped and repainted in pearl white, but after a while of looking at her I thought it would be better to keep the original paintjob and go for a complimentary 'black' components look.
been scouring parts from here and there - brakes and seatpost are just temporary as still looking for the 'right' ones, but she's finally rideable and it's fantastic.

I'm not saying carbon is more likely to fail than other materials, but there are many factors to consider - just as aluminium can fatigue, or steel, so will carbon eventually.
the main problem with diagnosis of carbon is that a seemingly slight impact could have hidden issues such as delamination etc. With a steel or ally component this damage would often be visible and can be gauged. unless you go to the expense of having carbon x-rayed you will never know the true impact.
I also have a carbon MTB frame from several years back, and although I still ride it I am always concerned about its ultimate long term durability - also having seen many carbon components (seatposts mainly) suddenly fail in a catastrophic manner, I'm always mindfull about what 'could' happen.
maybe in 30-40 years when more data is available on long term characteristics we will all be able to judge carbon composites with a better ability.

I have also been thinking about these but had seen bad reports on several forums and have now come to the conclusion that spending around £100 is going to give better results.
also longer term i'd rather have a better wheelset so that If I like this fixie business then I can use them on a better frame as time goes by
there are some nice weinmann wheelsets available from parkers for around £100
just my thoughts

New to this SS lark, but regular roadie so I'm sure i will get used to it
just building my first fixed based on a 1967 SUN frame that a clubmate gave me - have learned a lot by lurking on hear for a few weeks, will post pics once project is finished

did check the forks and frame very carefully before build and all looked fine, not sure if its just the angle on the photo. this one below shows clearence better (this is with a 25mm tyre as well).
I'm wondering if it was built with tighter angles considering it was an ex-team frame ?
