I’m selling my Burls — looking for £850 ONO. Collection from Stoke Newington.

I bought it for crit racing in 2011, of which I did about 5. Since then, I’ve been mainly riding Audaxes and touring (on another bike), so don’t have the need for such a racy bike as the Burls — hence the sale. Other than the crits, it’s seen fairly light summer-only use. Also, it’s never been crashed.

Condition: the frame is as good as new. The groupset is in great condition, aside from a couple of small scratches. The wheels are in decent condition, although there is a bit of scratching to the rear hub and spokes behind the cassette as a result of a shipped chain.

    Parts:

    • Burls titanium frame, 3T carbon forks, Chris King headset.
    • Shimano Ultegra SL 6600 10 speed, with compact chainset (I also have a matching 53-39 chainset if you are interested to make an offer).
    • Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheelset from about 2010. I peeled off most of the stickers from the rims and hubs to give the wheels a more classic look.
    • 3T finishing kit: carbon seat post, alloy bars and stem.
    • Fizik Antares R1 saddle (about 2 years old).
    • Vittoria Open Corsa 23mm gum wall tyres.
    • Brooks Microfibre bar tape.

    Measurements:
    Effective seat tube: 56.5cm
    Effective toptube: 57cm
Stem: 12cm, 17 degrees (so is horizontal given 73 degree fork angle)
    Bars: 42cm

    Pedals not included.

The lap I caught you broke me with all those bastard traffic lights, too much stopping and starting. Lost the 24mph and couldn't get it back; finished at 23.8.

That was a great ride, and thanks to 6pt for towing me around for so much of it! (I was in the red top, btw.)

Quick q, though: when did you start/stop your timer? I made the mistake of starting mine as we were rolling out of the inner circle, which I think must have lowered the average speed I recorded. I stopped it on (what I think was) the 8th lap (there were about 22 miles on the clock) by the turning into Yorks Bridge, just as you were (I think) pulling away from the lights with the guy in the Rollapaluza kit, with an average of 22.5mph. But it sounds like if I hadn't started it on the Inner circle it would have been >23. Oh well, will know for next time.

Last club run I was on there seemed to be no distinction between "up" and "down", people would seeming use them interchangably, which was rather confusing, to say the least!

What happens when you're on a hill and "car up" (car coming from behind) is logically "car down" (car coming from below)?

Admittedly, this is a late contribution to this discussion, but when I was on a Lea Valley CC club run a couple of months ago, one of the older guys explained the "up/down" thing (which I'd not heard in rides with other clubs) to me in these terms: "up" means from behind because it's like the car (or van or whatever) is coming up your arse, whereas "down" means from the front because it's like the vehicle is coming down your throat.

Not sure whether this is actually where it's from, but the guy seemed pretty sincere, as though he were passing cycling lore on to the next generation, and, to be fair, there is a certain logic to it.

Alex/ah1976 I think I spotted you in LMNH this afternoon? But you were across a sea of people watching cake being made so I couldn't say hai.

Yeah, I thought I saw you - then confirmed when I spotted your Neil Orrell locked up on my way out; I was only there fairy fleetingly, to get some cake before heading home. Did you make it to the hill climb in the end?
