I've currently got a charge plug, which I've been reliably informed has 120mm rear hub spacing.

Due to an impending longer commute (13 miles each way) I fancy a new bike, but funds are a bit tight at the moment. The commute is relatively flat - Hampton Hill to Victoria - and I fancy something geared.

My first thought is to sling an alfined rear wheel in there using the Sheldon Brown Cold Setting technique.

Is this relatively safe assuming I don't jump on the bit of timber and over stretch the frame?

I've thought that maybe you may be able to achieve a similar result using some threaded bar, washers and nuts and spread the frame like that, leave the assembly in place for a while and the frame should be spread, no?

    Any thoughts?

Brakes seem fine to me if thats what you're all getting at.

I've changed the levers for some proper 2 finger jobbies, so more powerful than the crappy mini levers they come with

Any more of these in the future?

Need something to do at nights when I'm working in London during the week

I picked up this last week of the 'bay.

Didn't like the stumpy little bars and the saddle wasn't too comfy (Jeff Griffin Bucket now for sale on the 'bay)

So I slotted on a pair of Charge Slice bars and a Spoon saddle, also went for the matching bar tape - for the rims.

The pedals are single sided SPD's with a normal BMX style platform on t'other side for when I'm not commuting btw.

Personally I'm well pleased with it, this being my first venture into single speeding. Not sure how the 42:16 is gonna work out on my commute but I'll soon find out, I;ve been doing it on a geared flat bar roadie for the last 6 months,

I've gone and bought myself an '09 Charge Freestyler in that purple colour, got it off the bay for a bargain price.

Can't wait for it to be delivered so I can start riding it

I've got a budget of £500, want a OTP as it keeps life simpler and haven't got the time or space to build one up from scratch in my rented bed room.

I've come up with the following:
1 - Langster Steel, nice looking, bloody awful saddle (lifetime warranty on frame bonus)
2 - Langster - lighter than above, doesn't look as good, guard mounts
3 - Genesis Flyer - rode on last year, liked it.
4 - Charge Plug in any of it's guises, prefer the bars on the normal one, prefer the wheels on the freestyler, ridden both, like both.
5 - SE Draft Lite - uber cheap, will it last?

    Any others out there?
