Anyone had much luck with green manure and can share any wisdom?
Field beans recommended in today's Guardian but are they just going to get annihilated by slugs?

V much appreciation for encouragement and advice re. wet weather commuting with a kiddo. We did both ways today in the tipping rain and it was great. The hamax poncho is a brilliant bit of kit, much better than I was anticipating, and we bought a new helmet with dragons on to ensure maximum enthusiasm. Wet Wednesdays puddle suits are also good, from vinted because £££, as the hood is detachable

Thanks for all the waterproofing tips. Has anyone tried one of these?

Last winter I mostly drove the car to nursery drop off then on to work (2 miles then about 4) because it just rained and rained and rained. Today I drove, and it was awful and slow and I resolved to take the bike every day. Child is 2. We go early in the morning so time spent dressing and undressing and faffing is unwelcome. What do I need to do/buy to make us waterproof and weatherproof all winter? I am riding a flat bar hybrid, currently without mudguards but only road ones will fit and they are £££. She is in a Thule seat and obviously we have basic waterproofs.
Are the poncho things you are covering the whole kid any good? Etc -

I'm so appreciative of this and the allotment thread. Makes me feel ok about losing two entire batches of peas and broccoli to the slugs, and has prompted me to go and pull out some bindweed in a hedge.
Obviously bindweed is the devil's work, but I will say this:
It gives me hope that the plants will reclaim all the concrete etc very quickly, post-humanity
And it is extremely satisfying to pull out of a silver birch and wisteria -

Why this one over the other long tails that are available in UK?
