Yes, my grandfather was a member of Calleva Road Club. I don't know much but my understanding is that they disbanded in 1957. My grandfather died over 20 years ago but my Gran, who is now well in to her 90s, would (and maybe still does) meet up on an annual basis with members of the club. I haven't seen any memorabilia from the club, but I have been told that there is a box of stuff somewhere around. I will see if it can be unearthed, if it does indeed exist.

Lovely riding with you all. Nothing quite like bezzing it downhill on some narrow country lanes in the dark.

Thanks jaygee for ticket and beer, I owe you.

deepest I've been in the pain cave ever.

    Surely this can't be true.

I came late and just caught 6pt on his last lap. Sounds like I missed a fast one...

It was a funny night. I almost fell off just braking at that pinch point incident, even though I'd been past it several times, then on my way home saw another cyclist who'd been knocked of his bike and was being tended to by several people.

Have a fun ride guys, after riding round today I am gonna be drinking beer and playing darts at the Village Inn in Bembridge instead.

Watch out for some sketchy points with quite greasy roads and slippy horse shit, especially in the more tree covered sections.

I'm holidaying in bembridge so may well join you tomorrow night. Only thing that might stop me is that I'm riding round the island tomorrow morning so I'll have to see how I feel after that. Are you going clockwise and are you following the signed round the island route?

It was a touch of wheels coming round the banking to take the bell in the scratch race. All I saw were people going down in front of me and with nowhere to go I just aimed for the grass, tried to hop the debris and curled into a ball as much as possible as I went over the handlebars. Got some oozing corners but nothing broken. Get well soon everyone.

Now, I don't know exactly the cause of this accident but I will say, regarding accidents like this, if it's just a touch of wheels during a race then so be it, it happens, but if you consistently overlap wheels with the guy in front you massively increase the chances of this type of thing happening. If you want to be close to the guy in front (not overlapping), be on the upslope side of his wheel so that if you find the gap closing and your wheels overlapping all you have to do is ride up the slope a little bit, even 10-15cm up the slope will do sometimes. This will slow you down and you'll fall back a bit. Then you just ride down the slope again to moderate your speed back up again. This way you never have to overlap wheels and you don't have to 'brake' and accelerate.
