Passed at 0830. Toward the bottom of Great Western Road there is a road leading into apartment building parking. Stopped black SUV and a white road bike in just at the edge of this road.

Ambulance and police were both already in attendance, didn't see the cyclist.

    Hope it isn't serious.

Well personal experience would tell me that there tend to be less of them and no camera crew.

But hey fuck it, I should have absorbed that information from your posts by osmosis! My bad!

Was I the only one that noticed the six or so Police/PCS officers on High Street Ken this morning. With what appeared to be a camera crew filming them doing there stuff?

(Also I noted an unusual ethnic/gender mix compared to most police "persons" you see about.)

What thew shoes with the shitest heel known to man?

A list in no particular order:

-Get a flat soled shoe (downturned later), velcro or laces depending. Velcro is easier on and off but laces can tailor your fit better by differential tightening which you might prefer.

-Get the shoe that best fits the shape of your foot (ask for help if you can't see it), this makes for a comfortable shoe.

-If the assistant is giving advice that sounds like bollocks or s\he doesn't seem to care then ignore them and go with what feels best. Your instincts will take you a long way.

-Size wise aim so that your toes are touching the end of the shoe when your foot is OFF the ground (your foot gets bigger when standing on the floor and your are aiming to stand on small things so...).

-Don't buy the hype, the rubbers are different but at your level not significantly so.

-Oh and ignore the sizes on the box, they are just a starting point but essentially meaningless for such tight shoes.

-Avoid shoes which give you hotspots!

    Hope this helps.

PS. Nothing wrong with wearing socks, people have climbed stupid hard with and without them so it is up to you what you want.

Yes but when you climb mountains then you will, unless you are Extremely Hardcore, be climbing in the season with the best weather and possible to some extent picking the best days according to the forecast.

As for Scotland it seems to surprise most people that it is actually a very harsh environment. When the weather turns bad it gets very dangerous but really it is the damp that will get you in the end not the cold itself...

Depends on the mountain you pick, some are essentially long/steep/cold walks and others are technical challenges as well as being long/steep/cold. Many off the more walk like mountains it is easily possible to hire guides for but you will want to do some technical training first anyway (think ice axe arrests, crampons, cutting steeps and getting really fit). Then there is the kit outlay which isn't tiny, you could always try for sponsorship or store discounts.

Indoor rock climbing can be a good introduction with ropes and some technical kit but it doesn't substitute for spending time on hills and in cold place before you try to do it at altitude.

Although all that said you can probable climb Mount Blanc with guides and stuff relatively cheaply (but it is quite a small mount really). And bouldering is far more fun than any of the above!
