this is so true!! weirddd energy in the air. It seems to happen when it gets all muggy and humid - perhaps the closeness of the air or something creates a weird aggro feeling on the roads. :(
some boy racers tried to 'race' me down old kent road just now by revving to intimidate then driving too close to me and shouting out the window.
Thanks to the abundance of red lights - i beat them. TWATS.
Can't believe the police are speed checking cyclists. If it wasn't true, it would be funny.

well it is infuriating at the time. i was just trying to say that we all do dumb shit sometimes - on bike or in van. sometimes it takes someone yelling at you to realize it but I find any time I get into an argument with a dangerous driver it only seems to make them more defensive, and aggressive....
have a near-miss, get called a tosser and puled up on my speling. what a day :P

also newbie - been reading for a while as a friend who is on here has been encouraging me to try out riding a fixed - been down HH for track once or twice.....i heart my road bike....looking into attempting to build a fixie or convert a bike to ss.........and enjoy reading this forum from time to time.
live in new cross.....will post my bike when i get one!
in the meantime, hullo and cheers for all the info posted up on here - some v. informative stuff. -
Hi guys. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting any of you yet - but pop in from time to time. If I can help in any way I will> I am at Goldsmiths and have radio production / film editing skills, and we are setting up a cycling society this year so anything we can do to help - count me in.
Even if it means trying to make some videos to get the message out - or short docs, or whatever.
Not sure how else I can help.......I have some experience of fundraising by putting on events - maybe we could raise the funds to get a project underway, really doesn't cost a lot to make a decent video and id happily donate my time to doing so- interview the MPs, cyclists, drivers, people who have been affected by accidents, then release that into the media and virally..........try put some pressure on? Film some hotspots in London and do demonstrations of what could go wrong / why these junctions are dangerous etc....Just reeling off some thoughts here. Let me know if there is any way i can help.
I've had too many close calls and heard too many tragic stories of accidents that shouldn't have happened. -
sorry to hear about your incident. I had similar today with a HGV (cripes) responding to some sirens...the sirens were there - i waited...and waited....he had nowhere to go, or so i thought as it was full lunchtime traffic in holborn, and then i did a stupid thing, (thinking, he's got nowhere to go) and tried to pull into the left when the siren car was behind me.....at which point he, without indicating, surprisingly pulled left onto a curb and pretty much avoided crumpling me by some sort of miracle.
I think I was (almost?) as much to blame as him, but then a passing ped went off the chart with rage at the man, saying CHECK YOUR F**King MIRRORS ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL THE GIRL etc etc.............thank GOD there was no railing or I would NOT be writing this message - as its only for the absence of the railing that I managed to jump onto the curb.
So - even when you THINK a beastly truck has nowhere to go in full traffic DONT RISK IT! AAH! They might just pull left over a curb without checking their mirrors or indicating, and kill you.
Oh, and he apologised. Which was a first for me in a near -miss scenario.

they will steal anything. my friend had the most ridiculous kids bike ever. The 'wild thing' we called it. We joked she could leave it unlocked no bother - that she could go up to a thief and GIVE It to them, and they would give it back.
Much to my amazement, I had a phone call not so long ago to tell me the wild thing had been stolen. Somewhere out there is a very unlucky, unhappy kid, riding a real piece of shit bike that his daddy stole for him one time.
Nothing will surprise me in this city.
*if you see an amazingly crap red kids bike with 'Wild Thing' emblazoned on it, cruising around town, feel free to point and laugh at them for expending their energy on cutting a lock to steal the most ridiculous crap heap of rubbish ever to grace the streets of london. RIP Wild Thing - you are sadly missed :(
