1st bike shop - took off derallieur, put on chain to rear wheel, chain kept coming off. Oh, and they almost killed me by 'fixing' the breaks so they didn't work.
2nd bike shop - looked at bike, said 'can't be done, you need specific single-speed type frame to take up slack from chain. Why don't you buy one of our new shiny ones?'.
I smelt a rat, but know too little about it to actually call that out.. So - any bog standard rear wheel should do? You can tell I'm a fairly incompetent newbie at this.

Took to bike shop, said 'please make this fixed gear'.
Hasn't worked safely since, have given up on them. I have nowhere near the skill to do the project myself, so getting shot of it. I measured the frame at 63cm.
New handlebars, new brakes, it worked fine before trying to 'fix' it. Back wheel slightly buckled by boris bike saboteur.
£50? Or PM me with an offer.
Unless you think you can get it single speed, for a fee...
Thanks.

Hi All,
Thought I would give SS a go, bought this fine specimen off bumtree, so noone but myself to blame. I thought I would give rebuilding it a go, I now realise that is way beyond my competence so - any offers for it? As you can see, the chainset is worn down to the bone, the rear cog is completely misaligned, the wheels don't bear talking about.
Question is : Would anyone want it as a project? Not expecting to get back the £70 I paid for it (doh! didn't know what to look for then), but open to offers. Seriously, is something like this worth anything more than a trip to the tip?
cheers

New to this, yet to understand why SS / FG cost as much as geared bikes. Anyway, just need something to get from Waterloo to Tower Bridge. 10 mins/day, would like to see what this fg/ss thing's all about.
Doesn't need flash anything. Doesn't need to be antique. Just needs two wheels, a frame & pedals. Oh, and brakes would be nice.
Must look beaten enough to sleep at Waterloo without being molested...
Seriously, as long as it moves - what's out there?
cheers.
Thought I'd give you an update - after your comments, I thought 'ah, sod it - I'll try converting it myself'.
Bought single speed rear wheel off Ebay (from Shacklewell Components), 135mm - put it on bike - presto, working.
Can't believe it was that simple, or that both (local, non-chain, friendly and would love to trust) bike shops near me either lied, or knew so little about single-speed that they misled me.
Thanks for the advice, glad I persisted, sorry to those who tried to buy it from me once I'd changed my mind!
