Took the ol' Pug to the bike shop today. I was going to get the BB changed to bring in the chainset to get a decent chainline with my new wheels (On-One track wheels). I knew my chainline was a long way out. A quick measurement in the shop showed it to be 15mm! As it is, it would be impossible to bring my existing 52t chainset in towards the frame enough to get a chainline as it would hit against the stay. I was using the big ring from the old double that was on the bike when I got it. The BB on it just now does seem to be quite long, but I was wondering whether a ss/fg specific chain set will bring it close enough (with the right BB)? Are they made to sit tighter to the bike frame on a square taper BB? If so, what would you recommed bearing in mind my money is running out!

I could really do without redishing and spacing my brand new wheels, although it might be neccesary.

PapaLazaru, I was wondering if you managed to solve this problem with your chainline? I've got the same set up on the Peugeot I'm converting and not sure whether to keep the existing cranks and try running the 52 T or the 40 T chain ring and what size BB to get..

Cheers Edy, I managed to take the BB to bits and luckily it's English... (the crankset-side unscrews clockwise, whereas the non-crankset-side is a normal thread). Going to take it up Armourtek this afternoon and get it sprayed, although i've got pretty attached to its beaten-up chipped look... Will post pics as soon as it's done.. prob a couple of weeks yet.

By the way, l like your setup - i know it's unpopular but i actually like that Decathalon seat post - looks from the photo like it matches the thickness of the stem... slick I reckon.

Appreciating the pug-love on this thread.. I've just bought a beaten-up peugeot which i think is from 1979-83 from the head badge. I've started stripping it down but I don't know how to tell if it has a French or English BB? There aren't any numbers on the cup or anywhere else. Any ideas?
