I'm new and unfortunately I have plans BUT if things change I'll be in!

Hope the ride goes well and her life is celebrated and like some said I hope some motorists stop, sit up and listen!

    Well in guys and gals!

Any more updates on this? I saw the 'Fatal Collision' notice today at Oval but I was wondering if you guys know if this has progressed any more? Would like to hear some justice out of this...

A lamp post... lifted... would it not have wiring in the base? Maybe they broke the lock and took it with them?

Good news the insurance has come thru and they want the details of a bike shop so they can make payment to the shop so we can get our bikes back.

    :)

I didn't see the posts objecting to youngie's posts earlier, but when I saw them they were already immediately relevant to the topic of this thread--and I'm pretty sure that I saw them before they were edited. Yes, s/he does mention the stolen bikes in passing, but I thought that was quite legitimate, given that the theft was the reason why s/he was on the bus stopped at the scene of the collison? Maybe I missed something.

Cheers fella - no biggy just don't want to come on here as a new member and seem like and ass!

Ha i know that now... live and learn huh... Still it sucks that you have to 'avoid' certain parts or locking up for a certain period of time - would be greati f you could lock your bike up anywhere with confidence but the world don't work like that and if someone wants your bike really badly (as quoted on this site) they will most probably get it!

The place it was locked up in had a globe CCTV camera nad was directly opposite a uni campus so I presumed it would be ok there in public view - not like it was tucked in some little corner chained to a lamp post :P

I just hope insurance comes thru now...

Hi All im new here... This will be my 3rd post so woooo!

Anyway on Wednesday 24th June mine and my GFs bikes got stolen from just outside the IMAX at Waterloo.

The bikes were locked together with over £250 worth of locks - the bikes were:

    1. Charge Plug Racer (Medium frame) with modified bullhorn handlebars taped red and small black and white finger brakes - the rest of the bike was as it was when purchased.

    2. Fuji Track 2008 (Small frame) with bright blue handlebars with black finger brakes and blue chain - everything else as it was when purchased.

The locks were cut with a powertool - my guess is a battery powered angle grider - no many things stand up to those... :(

Theft was reported to the police and insurance co were informed - insurance claim is in progress and hopefully I'll hear from them today with claim result.

I did a bit of scouring the web gumtree and the like and also took a visited to brick lane but its like looking for a needle in a haystack...

    Hope the bastards die horribly!

When I get a replacement via insurance or other i'll protect it with datatag, register and insurance and I have also shelled out for one Fug (kryptonite mini fug) and one Almax chain (16mm immobaliser) with one of their locks as advised on this forum... although I doubt i'll lock my new bike up anywhere other than at work from now on - not worth the risk!

By the way this is my bike (its a post from my blog so hope you all don't mind!)
    http://pixelspencil.com/wp/2009/06/08/damn-bicycle-teefs/

So gutted - it changed marginally from that photo - the handles had red tap and the brakes were changed to small black and white finger brakes - I have a photo of those if it helps anyone spot my old bike?

I have reported the theft to the police and insurance but would love the bike back - became so attached to it :(

I can't take credit for inventing a product or anything like that, but I think I'm the person who has suggested this particular motorcycle solution for bicycles.

I suggest buying a red or yellow disc lock alarm, as those colours stand out. A silver alarm might not be so bad when attached to a black chainring/crankset. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tNasb-mmL.jpg, http://www.blacksheepcycles.com/Photopost/data/520/medium/SNC11681.JPG

As for which exact disk alarm lock, I can't tell you that. But brighter, louder, and least expensive, seem to be a winning combination. But disk alarm locks like the one pictured, are ideal, as they are so snug to the ring, that they cannot be cut off. It would be easier to cut off the chainring, or take off the whole crank. And which thief would ever do that?

As its a theoretical solution, I also can't give figures for how much or little vibration, movement is required to trigger the alarm. I'd be happy to simply reset it, if I was in a pub having a drink, and it went off.

I think if more and more people tried this, and there were obvious brightly coloured alarms attached to chainrings, I think theives would start looking at chainrings first, even before crossing the street with their bolt cutters. After all, they won't know where the owner is.......

Cheers - good advice bro - think I'll be buying one of these:

Pretty reasonable price too £32 :)

It's OK youngie, feelings are running high because of the extreme sensitivity of the situation. If you do want to delete or edit your post further just click on the 'edit' button in the bottom right corner of your post, if you do this you will also find a 'delete' button on the page that comes up giving you the option to delete the whole post if you wish to.

Cheers fella - again I'm sorry!

I have edited the post - some of the info/text i put in was not needed... - can the guy who quoted the original post please remove the quote?

BTW im used to most forums but this one is a little different so again sorry for not noticing the post options...

Anyway has anyone come forward to give evidence to the accident? I hope they get some witnesses - drivers like that need to be punished.

    RIP
