Sorry to hear about your loss!

The answer is simple--they stake out a building, they work out how to get in, and then (most likely overnight) they know that they'll have lots of time, hidden safely away inside a bike shed, to get through the locks. The majority of bikes are stolen from homes, even secure sheds.

And I'm sure you've reported it to the police, as well?

Report it, report it, report it--yours was a burglary and they tend to be more interested in that than if bikes are taken off the street. Even if they take no action in your case (which is very frustrating), they need the weight in reported numbers to take action.

BTW, I'd think that it's pretty unlikely that your bike would be sold on in London, or sold on as a whole bike.

I have reported to the fuzz. They came and had a look at the scene, but I've heard nothing since. I've asked the others that've had their bikes stolen to report it, and quote the same ref no. but no idea if they actually have. I staked out the car park the following night too, in the (unlikely) hope they tried their luck a 2nd night running, but no sign of em.

As for getting it back, I'm slowly coming to the realisation that that ain't gonna happen, which is pretty damn shit. I quite fancy taking out my frustration on any old scally on a bike that clearly isn't legit.

But...guess I'll put this down as a lesson learnt. You can never be too careful!

I've been readin through this thread and had to sign up.

Had my Trek 1.5 with custom built DT Swiss wheels stolen 2 days ago. Wheels were barely 3 weeks old! Was locked up, in a locked bike shed, in a "secure" gated car park! How they got I have no idea, but they got my bike, and a couple of others

    Some further details

    Red & White 2008 Trek 1.5

Rear wheel - DT Swiss 1.1 rim, Dt Swiss 240s hub
Wheels will be odd because they had to leave the front one behind, it had the d-lock through it.

2 red bottle cages, one Bontrager

    Shimano SPDs

I've notified local second hand bike shops, and am taking a trip down to Brick Lane this Sunday, probably with some sort of concealed weapon. I'll keep ya'll posted.
