I need to replace the chainset on my fixie - have been using a botched road chainset with one ring bolted to the inside of the spider for a while now... was considering putting BMX 3-piece cranks on because they look so damn good (see ILD fixie on Freshtripe - http://www.freshtripe.co.uk/Freshtripe/Bikes/9DF4C29D-231D-4FC5-9810-4BD1D71172ED.html)
Going on Smallbrownbike(matt)'s suggestions, it doesn't sound too appealing in terms of set-up, feel etc... what does everyone else reckon?
I've been pulled in the City by armed coppers before, just after 9/11 when everyone thought there would be an attack on London - I was riding down Ludgate Hill towards the junction with Farringdon and didn't see a City police car sitting at the lights in front of a big white van - obviously i shot through the red, so totally deserved being stopped by them, but because i hadn't seen them i kept going up Fleet St. I remember i was on a black bike, wearing black everything and had a camelback tube and iPod wires sticking out of my rucksack... by the time i realised the siren was for me, they must have been mighty pissed off, becase they swerved in front of me, got out with their sidearms drawn and shouted at me to spread-eagle it on the pavement!
The wankers even CUT my bag off my back to inspect it while i was face down on the street.
Obviously they found nothing... but they declared that i'd been stopped under the Terrorism Act 2000, got me to fill out a form and even declare my fucking ethnicity... no apology, no offer of compensation for the cut straps of my bag... utter tossers.
I absolutely SHAT myself at the time and was too shocked to do much other than pick up my stuff and get to work... but bloody hell - a bit heavy handed eh? - What did they think i was - a cycle-bomber?? Anyway - they obviously totally forgot that i went through a red light.
