Painfully cold hands and feet can turn a ride into a miserable experience. Last year I did a club ride and it was minus 7 when I left home and my hands and feet were so cold they were hurting. I was wearing woolie boolie socks, shoes and neoprene over shoes and they were not up to the job. Since then I got some Shimano MW02 winter boots and have never had cold feet since.
Councils are trying to reduce the amount of landfill. Scrap metal has a resale value but tips are often run by companies who are subcontracted by the council and they want to make a profit so will sell bikes on.
