hmm,
I'm about to do a winter clean of my garage of frames, forks, rings, chains, etc, etc. Since moving to HK i've decided to get ride of loads of my old stuff. I'm back in the UK around Christmas so can donate at that time. I've loads of stuff, some pretty much brand new. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see when stuff could be donated.

It sounds like your iliotibial band (ITB) is tight (very common on cyclists).
So here's a little anatomy for you: there are 2 main muscles that attach into your ITB; Gluteus Maximus and Tensor Fascia Latae (TFL)
If your riding position changes, i.e. drops are lower then being bent over will transfer more tension onto your legs, your hips and back will also rotate forward and this will increase the tension in Glute Max.As to what the other guys have said about cleat position and Q factor, a small change to either of these will change the way the ITB pulls below the knee, so if your ITB is tight to start, then a small change like; bar height, reach or change in Q angle etc has the potential to induce quad pain.

Since moving to HK it now looks like this, although I still have the nitto moustache bars, nitto drops and nitto bullhorns i rotate onto the bike depending on my mood. It now stay brake free all the time:

You'll want to edit that, It was powder coated for durability and never ridden since powder coating.
You'll want to split the tub front the rim on the front too. it's a very old tub. Wheels good though.
