  I'd run a 48x15 or a 48x14 if the course is flat and not a half Ironman or Ironman.

• Single-speed... I just don't get it

  I love being able to free or fix depending on the terrain. I hate descending the hills here on a fix. The free comes in handy every time.

• Riding drunk

  Never puked on the bike, but have had some nice carnage with road rash after boozing too much. It was dark and there was sand and plenty of margaritas. Effing hurt!

• Riding With Strap

  I gotta tell you that I'm one of the few out here in LA that rock the platform BMX pedals. The straps are a pain in my ass, unless I'm riding the track. I've got big feet and like the freedom of not being locked down.

  Now: 48x18

  Like both, but the 18 is much better for climbing. I miss the top-end speed of the 16, however. I'm interested in going super spinny for an experiment...like 39x14. Thoughts?

  I ride here in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California. What is the scene like in London? In LA it's a mix. The westside [read: beach communities] have a more chill approach to the scene. They are more relaxed and aren't the biggest tricksters.

  The folks on the other side of Hollywood are more street. They ride fast, are messengers and "live the fix life" more than their Westside counterparts.
