Commute is 9 miles flattish each way on my SS, sometimes wish it were longer, especially on lovely cool autumn-ish days like today. Couldn't tell you the set up, all I knows is there's a chainwheel and a rear sprocket (good start!), goes faster than your average granny, slower than most competitive lycra-clad morning commuters. Speed's not the point, it's often the most enjoyable bit of the day. No need for gears. Have fun!

Had a similar issue with creaky noise coming from the drivetrain of my old beater. Gave the chain a good clean with Fairy liquid (managed to make half an old shirt completely black), and a decent amount of Green Oil lube, and now is silent AND about 3 times faster! V pleased I hadn't gone to the bike shop to get them to sort out the problem.

Anyone got a 700C front wheel spare? It's to fit a 700x25 tyre, if that makes any difference re: width etc (sorry, not technically-gifted).
Else, how about a rim?
Don't have much dorra, looking at something <£15 but even less is better. Tell me if this is too unreasonable.
