Hi guys... apologies for allowing this thread go neglected, not often I find myself not spending enough time on the internet. Thanks again to those who stickied the thread, and equally so to everyone who posted up...
As for the programme itself, it's not to be happening, though the producer who wants to make it was resurrecting the research this year, having not come up with enough last year, and so I think we can hope there is a long-term interest in the thing being made. As for the reasons this time around, the whole wing-mirror legislation change for 2009 seems to be on its way to becoming common knowledge amongst cyclists, but additional to that there also seems to be the criminalisation of death by careless driving, whereas now one can do whatever they want in their many-hundred kilogram car so long as they are not being 'dangerous'. Basically, with the government putting some changes in place, the question doesn't really (I'm presuming) have that much media clout until these policy alterations prove ineffective... hopefully that won't be found too overwhelmingly the case.

I just posted on CTC now, spent this morning phoning round all of their nationwide coordinators to find out news, thanks again for the advice, and just thanks in general... weirdly enough, some cycling organisations don't actually like the idea of the programme being made; I reckon they see it as something to scare riders off the roads, rather than seeing it as something to raise awareness and get something done about the crummy treatment we get out there.
Feel free to keep the ideas flowing.

Hey guys... We're perhaps all seeing a few too many titles sounding like the above at present, but nonetheless, I need your help.
I'm working with a television production company at the minute, and we're looking to make a documentary for Panorama about the number of cyclists getting munched by trucks. Panorama are interested, but it needs to be a nationwide issue for them to take it on board, so at this stage all the recent tragedies in London are not going justify the programme in their eyes; to a lesser extent incidents in Oxford/Cambridge are valid, but not yet seen as representative of a national concern.
So, though we're mainly Londoners on here, I'm asking if anyone knows of incidents in hometowns, through friends elsewhere in the land, etc etc... that could be of use to me, and help get the programme made and a little more awareness raised.
Just to justify myself a bit, I'm a courier, and a fixed rider, and not some snotty-nosed toff hoping to forge a career in media. Which means it's fine to help out.

Yes I can definitely recommend the warm, moral glows for sleeping.
To answer the other questions... the event is scheduled to run between from 1pm-7pm, with riders meeting up at Shoreditch park... I have seen a map of the route, and so know that it exists (there are leaflets in shops across London, and the map can be found there).. if you email the office I'd imagine someone can scan it and email off a copy. I know for definite that the route is a 12mile circuit, all around the borough, but there is also a shortened form for anyone that can't quite muster the energy for the whole thing.
As for the gifts involved... all volunteers... to show that they are a responsible pillar of the group, will be provided with an LCC T-shirt (green,purple or red I believe) and whilst this might sound lame, they are actually a pretty nice design (I'm wearing mine now) and a good fit without too much cotton to flap around in the wind. Anyone that was at rollapaluza last night would have seen the LCC guys modelling them dutifully.
Hope that lot offers more guidance and incentive to come on down/up and join the festivities.
Hey guys... I lost my wheels last night, halloween, somewhere between 9 and 12, from outside the Bricklayer's Arms, Charlotte Road, just off Great Eastern Street up/down in Shoreditch.
Obviously not expecting it to be anywhere in that area now, not really expecting to see the thing ever again, but might as well hope against hope and put out word.
So anyway, the thing was, unfortunately, also not that distinctive, it being a Genesis flyer, the white one with black writing; bar tape on the left hand side was flapping about shabbily, Mavic open pros, Schwalbe stelvio pluses... had just the one brake and with the cable put in back to front (I was in a rush, don't judge me!)..... which makes it pretty distinctive, though only if you're looking.
So yeah... I'll be round Brick Lane market tomorrow, seeing if I get lucky, feeling angry. The thing got taken from a bit of a street with three CCTV cameras in a twenty metre stretch... good to see the things working so effectively.
