luverly Surly, £375, 11 hours to go and no bids. very nice spec, but 61cm. possibly worth it even for the components alone...

help a new kid out: is £350 a good price for this thing? seems almost too good. am i missing something?

    (nobody bid at £375 -- i offered £350 and he'll do it)

thanks p&b, i'll check it out.

the thing about fixed gear is going downhill. i would be a little nervous about using the front brake and flipping. i know you probably can pedal defensively but still.

andyp - did you try the lemond fillmore at all?

snoops: i actually just now saw your post and send you a pm. thanks for the heads up

i love the condor classic pista but i guess you pay for that sort of class.

and the ultimate question: how much of a wimp am i for being scared for fixed-gear?

I've been secretly/silently reading for a while but this is my first post. Thanks for all the great info in the past....

My other crappy little bike got crushed by a car (I wasn't on it, thank god) and now I am looking for a relatively cheap single speed (£400-500-ish? I could be convinced to spend more on something particularly nice). I'm pretty tall (6'3-6'4) so I'm looking for a larger frame.

I'd rather it not be too achingly trendy in fact, I'm pretty into the classy look (I like the Bianchi Pista but am a little scared of the whole fixed/one brake thing). I've spent a long time looking at the off the peg ones at about a million places around london but can't quite find the right thing so I thought I could try buying one that someone with a little more knowledge/human-ness has built/re-built. Not sure how possible this really is but my fingers are (perhaps naively) crossed...
