I had the same thoughts too before i drilled out my Rossin forks, glad I did too coz the bike would look shit with a pair of cheapo chrome forks. And for the boards? white tape. you wouldn't even know they had a hole in.

What are you agonising for Gizmond? Especially if you have a bench drill and not a crappy Black & Decker like I used on my 70's steel condor forks (I can hear the shrieks already) They worked a treat though. Life's too short to worry about stuff like that, like having your favourite top in your wardrobe and never wearing it.

    Whirrrrrr.....

The main problem I encountered when I started converting a classic steel road frame to fixed was the width of the rear dropouts - 126mm and my stays were too rigid to easily squeeze them onto my 120 80's campag record hub - spacers would mean a new rear axle - not easy, and alter the chain line. Plus a horrible gap between dropouts and sprocket - heaven forbid. Not for the perfectionist.

Don't be so hasty to diss tubs. I've been riding on them nearly everyday for the last couple of years. They're lighter and ride better plus rims/wheels are cheaper on ebay. They are easy to change on the hoof providing you carry a spare and a roll of tub tape (extra sticky double sided cloth tape) but a bit of a pain to repair as you have to stitch them up again af ter you have stuck on the patch - or go for Tufo's which are resealable and pretty much punctureproof.

If they build a bike from top to bottom, what's going to hold the saddle and bars up before they fix the frame?
