One more for the list... my Orange P7 mountain / touring bike stolen last week. Someone broke into porch / entrance to house in KingsX where it was - foolishly - unlocked. When stolen, it had an yellow saddle rather than a brooks, no pump, no rack or panniers, and shwelbe marathons front & back. Small dent in top tube. Bike was my workhorse. If someone offers it to take it and their spleen. Thx.

I'm looking for a front rack with a wide platform - something to put stuff on top of rather than for hanging pannier bags. Kind of like this. If you have one to sell, or know of anywhere I could find one please let me know. It will sit on a old beater, so anything - rusty/old/new/whatever - is welcome.
    Thanks.

Time for a breather, I think, and a listen to Harry 'The Hipsters' Gibson delightful

Hmmm.. nice thread idea. So far I have used them for a few projects:

    1. Protecting front forks. A length on each side.
    2. Countless catapults* and Hawaiian slings* as a young-un.
    3. Lighting fires - a short length works surprisingly well.
    4. Straps for panniers.

Good article by science writer Malcom Gladwell on race, genetics, culture and sport.

Chat away in French for a few minutes, then casually drop in an English question. If it responds in Englais you got youself an English bb. A quizzical raised eyebrow probably means it's French.
    Or smarter than you.

Sheldon has a more traditional approach.

In my vast experience of one triathlon:
If your skinny and/or tend to get cold quickly a suit is a good idea. I was cold & it def slowed me down. Though if your not used to wearing one (&taking it on and off), it may be a pain in the hole.
Be prepared for weird feeling of weakness after change overs - it passes after a few min.
It will be full of highly strung/high achieving business types with £10000 bikes and personal trainers: Take appropriate pleasure in beating them in a pair of tatty shorts and conversion.

Oh, and road frames come in lots of materials, up to and including bamboo.
