Thanks everyone, I think we've gone definitive - It's a speedway!

It's gonna be a hellava commute and no mistake!

Have I just picked up a lemmon! anyone heard of a speedway being introduced to the road? wouldn't a larger chain ring and slick tyres do the trick?

Just got this on ebay - the seller admits he knows v.little about bikes, I'm happy to admit the same - Planning to put some proper wheels on it and use it to commute.

Described as " SAKAE RACING BIKE CUSTOM ENGLAND EO94 6 82 DAN TA FRANCE wheels ALESA 515xalloy WEINMANN 650A "

anyone have any guesses as to what this might be - and if it was worth the 70 quid paid for it.

Thanks.

Thanks, they're very nice to ride.. That shop is still there, with lots of classic Holdsworths - though none are for sale.

Selling my commuter bicycle, no longer cycling to work so can’t justify it -hoping to get £280 for it - optimistic, I don't know.

..

Its been stripped, cleaned and reassembled with new inner and outer cable on brakes and rear derailleur / rear hub has been serviced ( last week )

The frame is an ALAN super record I think - BB Shell reads 42s647 - j57x57
the frame measures 57cm top tube - 57cm down tube
Plenty of scratches as you can see:

• no dings or dents though.

The original forks broke on me so I replaced them with new chrome steel ones - and had the headset serviced - that was about a year ago.

The gear shift hanger on the left has also broken so I’m only running a rear derailleur - single chainring - which makes it a 6 speed ..

The bits are varied and I guess that makes this bike a bit of a mutt but I love it that way

Campag headset, I want to say its a record but don’t really know.

Cinelli stem & bars
Cut back and flipped - the long stem meant i needed to shorten the reach - i’m 5’ 10”..

Campag veloce brake calipers with almost new blocks and pads

Campag victory 170mm cranks & 52t chain ring
Its well used but works

Ofmega bb - sound

Shimano gear lever and rear derailleur -
Friction and index shift - though to index nicely it will need some tinkering.

Wheels - zeus / mavic / super champion - bit tatty but both show almost no signs of brake wear and run straight and true

6 Speed maillard 13/24 freewheel - good click sound, very little wear

Brooks professional saddle - its old but not been broken in really

Also: used to run mudguards on it - there’s clearance but no eyelet on the fork so modern ones work best

Wondered if any of you know if you can lace a 40 hole hub into a 36 or 32 rim.
