Ooh... I've really enjoyed the Bianchis I've ridden that would be quite nice... I was thinking about getting an off the rack Pista but the lack of drilled holes for a rear brake made me a little nervous... I want to try fixed but I haven't ridden the roads in London yet so I'd like to have the option of free to start (getting used to traffic going the opposite way and so on ;] ). But Oxford is a bit of a ways from me... I suppose I could give them a call and see :D

Wow thanks guys! I went into Brick Lane Bikes at some stage and got laughed at for wanting a 300-400£ bike :( Apparently I look cheap. It's just been tough cause I wanted to actually ride some stuff to see about sizing but a visit to bike polo sounds fun (I guess I could do stand-around-without-a-bike polo for a bit ;] ).

bah - the girl changed her mind and doesn't want to sell. i'm looking for something built up that i can at least test ride - and i don't think i'm handy enough to build up a bike myself yet :( i want to learn but the reality is i want something to ride soon... and i'd only like to spend £300-400 if possible... or am i dreaming :]

hey everyone:
thanks for all the useful tips about finding a bike in london. i had a bit of a personal life detour from my search - but now i am back in the city, and still looking for something that will fit me (i'm 5'2"). i saw this on gumtree and was wondering if anyone has ridden one before...http://www.gumtree.com/london/37/13774437.html
i'd like to convert it to ss but dunno what the drops on these are like...

hmm... sounds a bit too complicated then for me. i want something i can ride -soon- without an insane amount of work. i'm still new to building things up so i don't want to start a project that will put me in over my head. maybe i'll go and have a look at somethings already built up as mentioned. any other strong recommendations for frames i should keep an eye out for on ebay/gumtree?

hi alive-roxy: don't worry i'm not a zombie - i'm also very much living :]
kowalski - thanks for the tip i'll check it out. i'm nearby-ish (in brixton) so it's not too far for me.
just one general question - is anyone else riding a peugeot tourmalet? i've never tried one but i've been enticed by the one hovis mentioned that's up on ebay. it's super cheap - but then i dunno if i'm getting enough for my money.

haha - no, my user name is not a big secret. "roxy" is my nickname in real life (though it has nothing to do with my actual name) and deadroxy through a complicated series of events became one of my online handles when plain old roxy was taken :]
the peugeot frame looks quite nice but i'm still not sure about the sizing. the recommendation of getting fitted is a good one - but for a second hand frame isn't that still a bit tricky - when the geometries differ quite a bit? i'd really like to see it in person or ride something built up. MrSmith & edmundane i'll get in touch with the people you recommended to see if they might have something decent. but if anyone has any other recommended people / places or happens to have a bike / frame - please let me know because i'm still having trouble finding one :]
i'm not a child but this bike seemed appealing for me...

i'm still looking and still a small 5'2" and it's only £150 as of now and i do have a soft spot for celeste green... but is it not worth it?
