@cjr - As we talked about in Granada post race..that was a tough one. Well done you for doing it in just over 3 days. Impressive pedalling. Agree your comments on the sand. On that subject not sure that the long beach run into Almeria is needed. Kudos to everyone who rocked up on the start line and gave it a crack. If anyone else out there wants an insight into the race I kept a pictorial blog with some commentary and thoughts and it can be found at http://www.thelaeman.com

We did the Great British Escapade North/South Downs race as a test ride in June. Wettest weekend of the year. Of the 56 starters only 11 finished. The only thing that fell off our bikes was us. Multiple times. Both of us needed new bottom brackets after the race and almost everyone had to replace both sets of brake pads.

If you decide to stay same hotel or you speak to hotel and they're willing to share their van (and it can take 3 boxes) more than happy to split the cost between 3 of us .....

Not sure where registration is but my riding buddy and I are staying at the Hotel Gar Anat which we noticed is 700 yards from the start.... the hotel has offered a van to pick us up at Malaga (for a cost) and also offered to store our gear and boxes when we are doing the ride.

@cjr thanks for passing that along. My reading of that is that essentially they're saying that the descent from Veleta pass is too hairy and a legal case waiting to happen . Fine to do it of your own accord but not under the auspices of an organised race where the organisers would be held accountable should something go awry.

Yup agree. Any reasoning be better than none. So, in the spirit of the race and not pre-booking anything should be interesting to see what occurs for those who finish between midnight and dawn when fk all will be open in the small town of Capileira. We just ride nonchalantly onto Granada in a non race mode I guess or sleep out the night and do it in the new day.........actually as I pressed transmit on the first portion of this message a white light struck me. Cross the line. The race is over. Therefore can pre book accommodation in Capileira. :-)

So as a participant in Badlands this year for the first time and having just received the route from Transiberica a few questions I am hoping can be answered.

    1. Why are they not finishing in Granada? The descent from Valeta Pass too hairy?
    2. So we finish in a small town 75km from where we started. Then what? Just cycle any number of ways back to Granada ?
