I hear what you’re saying. I guess I had some hope that being a Brompton Junction shop it might make the warranty process a bit easier. It seems that may have backfired. I guess we’ll see what they end up doing and go from there.

@sbbohr given your knowledge of Bromptons, have you any clue what may be causing a reasonably consistent/loud creak on a ~1.5 year old P-line going over bumps/any kind of uneven surface/if you “bounce” on the pedals as such (ruling out saddle).

In the end I just want it fixed 😃

I’ve already left the bike with Brompton Junction in Covent Garden. I’ll take it to Balfes (who looked at it this morning and claimed it was abnormal, but they suggested I went to Brompton Junction for ease) I guess if that doesn’t work.

Not really sure how to proceed otherwise

Unfortunately not. I took it to Brompton Junction in Covent Garden tonight and they are going to replace the hinge pin from the sounds of it. They replaced the clamping plate but that didn’t fix it. Unclear if this will be covered by warranty too 🥲, my experience didn’t start so well - they seemed unsure if I even owned the bike and claimed this may be caused by a lot of off road riding (which isn’t true either)

It worries me that after ~1 year of riding a maximum of 45km a week (probably less than 2000km total factoring in holidays etc) this would need doing.

    Curious what others think.

I don't think there is much movement with it clamped up, but over any bump of any size I am getting a reasonably loud creak at this point from the hinge which is what's concerning me.

I have discovered a rather large amount of vertical play in the main hinge between the two frame halves, I'd guess 0.5-1mm - it's almost like the "ears" for the hinge have spread somehow. The bike is ~1.5 years old, been well looked after / not been dropped / crashed etc - kept clean and lubricated. I think this is the source of creaking I have been trying to get to the bottom of.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? What would be the solution - I am going to head into Brompton Junction after work today.

Had a proper look over the new bike today, overall pretty happy, noticed that the gear adjuster barrel was almost fully out, so reset all the gears and limit screws, bit poor really.

Checked torques of things like crank arms etc, all seemed reasonably tight but there was maybe 1/8 of a turn before the torque wrench was happy (freshly calibrated wrench from an engine rebuild, so unlikely the wrench is at fault).

Reset brake cable tension (again barrel adjuster was quite far out for the rear).

Front wheel doesn't appear very straight, maybe 3mm or a touch so side to side movement... never had to true a wheel so wonder if it's enough to get the retailer to have a quick look at that? Can't really adjust the brakes nicely given that.

Otherwise, really happy with it honestly, had to tilt the saddle down a bit as I was not very comfortable last week, upon a closer look it was pointing up a bit, levelling it out seems to have made it much more comfortable.

Managed to bag a new(ish) o-bag on Facebook Market place... first commute with it all tomorrow (after two runs with a backpack last week, quite looking forward to it).

So here's my very own Brompton. Never thought I'd get one but it really does make sense for the current commute. About 14km a day in total (2 to station, 5 to work, each way). So far so good - completed the commute twice.

Coming from disc brakes on my other bike, the brakes are "so-so" - I wonder if the standard pads are a bit "meh"?

Otherwise, just need to sort a bag (hopefully collecting one tonight) and a seat post insert, will get that organised next week.

Finally what chain lube are people using? Any links to Brompton top tips/post delivery checks are most welcome.

I echo this, I wanted to give them a go but my c2w scheme wasn't supported by them, that being said they were willing to let me try whichever bike I wanted, and even encouraged me to try a few others whilst I was there. I stopped by one evening after work.

@sbbohr sadly that one is way too big, I want something that's quite compact really (medium size would be ideal)

@HoKe where did you find this (was wondering if I might be able to do a bit of digging and see if it was worth waiting), maybe they will release some other bags too...

Thanks for all your help, managed to get a test ride on the medium and low bars, think the medium is better for me overall.

I'm picking up a P line next Tuesday, can't wait.

Only thing left to figure out is what bag to get. The medium Brompton messenger looks ideal for me, as does the medium roll top. Wondered if anyone had any slightly nicer suggestions around this size?
