After a little digging I found that the frame was built by a small Leicester based cycle firm, Cassis Cycles. Going on that, the cutout is likely there for decoration over function. I may be at a disadvantage when installing my wheels which use campag quick release skewers like the ones pictured below.

What chain tug do you think would be best to fit?

@rpm I was lead to believe 700c was the appropriate wheelset size for this frame, I can't see how I'd run in to any immediate problems.

The only marking I could find is the number "#72" stamped underneath. I don't think it's very old, but I have no evidence to the contrary.

Thanks for your attention on this. I hear you. Can you explain why I wouldn't have any problems with chain tension? I don't want the wheel to pop forward whilst riding.

I thought they were unusual too. I haven't a clue on the make of the frame - you don't think the cutouts are there to accommodate some kind of tugnut?

Edit: thanks for the welcome! Here's a full picture of the frame.

Hi, I need some advice on what kind of hanger I'll need for my frame. I'll throw up a picture. Going for a single speed freewheel.

It looks like it may be a specific fit given the groove at the back? Appreciate any input here.
