First time I ever went to Iron-Bridge...or is it IronBridge, or perhaps Iron Bridge? Henceforth (and only if there is a henceforth), I shall call it IB. Anyway the descent down into the Severn Valley was surprising. I like descents being an mtb'er but a sharp hairpin to the right saw me endo (and I don't ever, by choice, endo my road bike) straight towards the gravelly road edge. Fortunately I saved it and managed to get the bike back on track only for a Corsa to then overtake me on the straight (still a sharp gradient down) immediately following this hairpin. I feel somewhat perturbed as I'd pretty much thrown away perhaps the highlight of the whole ride, i.e. a nice controlled descent through some sharp chicanes on an aggressive gradient.
Also slept in a field next to a huge pile of horse/cattle shit for a couple of hours. Waking up with the sun blazing down on me was a true solstice moment.
Fcuk me it was hot. I think I've aged another 20 years, and it's not like I was young before!! I'll come back to you if I can remember anything else.
Oh, and I did Wander Wye the weekend before too. Loved that route though I performed more bad due to lack of sleepage the night before the start. Fantastic little lanes but agree with @youramericanlover in that the roads back to Wimbledon were a nightmare. -

Hi all,
Did the New Forest Offshore and Onshore 200k over the weekend. What a great ride that is. A circuit of the Isle of Wight that cut through the middle to avoid the hills around Ventnor. The road surfaces on the IoW are so smooth. Jumped on the chain link ferry to make the river crossing at Cowes and then continued on to make the 13:oohrs ferry back to Lymington from where we continued the remaining half of the ride round the New Forest. This second half was supposed to be flat according to reports although it did have some climbs in it. Thoroughly recommended if any of you get the chance next year.

Did this last year. Really enjoyed it. Pretty easy and the weather's very similar to what we get in the UK. I pretty much winged the stops en route. Seemed to work out well though maybe plan the boat rides if poss to make sure you don't miss the last one of the day. I took the unusual combination of a tarp tent and a non waterproof ultra light bivvi bag for flexibility. Never used my tarp tent once which was ~700g of wasted weight and the lightweight bivvi was used in the clouds so I woke up (never really slept) soaked one night. Slept inside a McDonalds too because of the 5 or 4 hour (can't remember) min stopping time but that was my bad planning. Still benefitted from a proper breakfast as soon as I woke up :) It's great you'll love it.
