I think you're right about it being illegal but getting caught and fined is another thing. It's illegal in a lot of places but races still happen. I think there's a good enough understanding in the bikepacking community that you leave no trace and you don't be a dick.

Can confirm, I didn't get a single dropout in the session I did using an extender. I'm on a 2017 MacBook Pro with OS Mojave
