The French aren't enamoured of anyone who isn't French, that's just how it is . There is a regard for Froome, but everyone here assumes (rightly or wrongly) that he's a doper. The French cycling press included.

Barguil is a proper hero here in France, they're comparing him to Hinault. Which is a big legacy jersey to fill.

The team cars are a pain in the arse, they basically have no rules of the road to abide by, and don't disappoint in that respect. The Gendarmes want to control the race in the last 10km,for safety reasons (as that is usually where the majority of crowds are) ime, they're totally right to do so as it's as dangerous as fuck, for rider and spectator alike.

I'd say Barguil won't be caught, he looked like a train with a serious destination last week.
+1 The route was pretty hard to watch, with long flat stages/sections where you knew nothing would kick off till 20k to go. The French, as ever as turned out in their millions. I think Brits forget this is really just a day by day party for them - four course lunches by the roadside, bottle of wine and then back to work first thing the following afternoon.
