It's not been a "hard right" issue in this case, it's the progressive lefts continual misuse of these words, that has caused this.
As an example, calling out someones choice of vote in the referendum = "racist cunt"
It's a bit like the tick a box meme, "feminist" or "misogynist", no box marked "other"
