I'll probably be somewhere in Scotland. If it happens to be otherwise I'll gladly come.

I'm a little concerned by the predictions of thundery doom for this evening. No signs of it in SW1 yet.

Bikes are lightening-proof though surely because of the rubber in the tyres
-
• #12
That's an urban myth apparently. I remember riding one night through SW France when there was lightning on the horizon, and I looked this up and found several debunkings of it. Somewhat stressful conditions for one of my first overnighter, even though the storms never really closed in on me. #csb

Anyway I've scratched the Scottish plans so am keen for some storm-riding.

A bolt of lightning that has leapt across the gap from it's cloud to the ground is unlikely to be confounded by two and a half centimetres of rubber. What you need is a Faraday's cage to route the charge around you, or a lightening conductor to attract the potential strike away from you. As I'm not the tallest person in the group I should be ok.

Weather looks ok I thought? Anyway lots of other, more interesting and taller things for the lightening to pay attention on this route. If it was Ingatestone tonight however, well...

@middleofnowhere
For those trainengering, good luck with GTR! I've been commuting that route (a bit further up) and they've been very hit-and-miss for a couple of weeks. Keep checking the planners/tw@tter, as they have been buggers for cancelling stops en-route (sadly including Potters Bar), as well as entire trains!Edit: I'm sure you're on the case.

Cheers for the heads up. I had heard about the furore and noticed the timetables are very different from previous trips but I thought it had settled down. Will keep and eye on it. Do you know a good info source? I usually use the trainline ap.

Been using a combination of National Rail Enquiries, Trainline, GTR's own planners and I follow all the necessary stuff on Twitter. But it's still not reliable, as I've turned up and trains have been cancelled 5-10 mins before scheduled leaving time (and yes, the buggers do know much further in advance, but don't tell us!).
I will keep my eye out for the 1906 and post here, if I hear anything untoward. I will only be sitting (probably standing) on the train home anyway, so will try to be of some use.

Just been through KGX. 1906 to Welwyn is still on the board and the bod on the gate says it’s still calling at Potters Bar.

No worries. Apologies for false alarm. But the trains have been really shit this week. Enjoy the ride!

Yes, thanks for the ride and the beers!

Really good ride last night! I'm also glad I decided on train beers instead of riding home.
I can barely keep my eyes open today.
Life is full of ups and downs, so is this ride, these two observations are completely unrelated.
