  • I've been riding around Wales painting pictures. Come and have a beer. Drinks are 5-8 pm Saturday 9th. My Space, Studio 03, Unit 01, is on the river, by the wreck of the old Royal Iris ferry.

Painting of a tree near Bala, Snowdonia

  • Rembrandtpark, Amsterdam

  • Those trees are fantastic!!

  • Awesome route. Some friends and I are planning a trip around the Welsh coast, starting at Swansea and ending at Bangor. How did you find the coastal road around Snowdonia national park? I'd love to see a picture of your rig!

  • The coast roads and bike paths between Porthmadog and Machynlleth was actually some of the nicest riding. It was hot while I was there, so the sea breeze was welcome. Crossing the causeway at Barmouth was good fun. North of Porthmadog theres a good dedicated cycle path parallel to the main road, but it has regular annoying gates.

Also good dedicated cycle paths between Swansea and Carmarthen, flat and rolling right by the sea much of the time.

Here's the bike loaded up with paint kit etc, probs about 55kg all in. I stopped weighing it a few tours ago because I'd actually rather forget about the weight while I'm riding- after a while you mentally adjust to the super slow pace and take the journey as it comes. Tactic on any incline is just to go as slow as possible without falling over :)

Edit: this is what I did on the last day. I changed the route a few times on the way down, at this stage I really wanted to avoid as much climbing as possible. Nicest parts of this day were the Promenade at Swansea with a tail wind :) and the Clyne Cycle Path through the woods just west of there

  • Impressive tour! North coast of Wales was my favourite bit when I rode the Bryan Chapman Memorial last year. Very atmospheric.

  • North Coast was part of the original plan, but found a really good youth hostel called Basecamp Wales in Penygroes, which I highly recommend, so I stayed there a while to paint, then got offered a week's work near Cardiff and needed the cash, hence smashing it along the south coast on the last day.

  • Awesome, thanks for the info. What was your camping set up? We are looking at tarp (between 3) + roll mat + sleeping bag to keep it as trim as possible.

  • that first tree painting is sensational! good work all round

  • Ah, I meant the coastal bit of Snowdonia facing West, Barmouth and after. Should have said North-West coast probably. I need to go back to Wales.

    BCM looks like this:

  • That looks Brutal! I'd love to go back travelling light, and without work.

  • I didn't camp, just hostels and freinds' places. Camping in my mates field didn;t count because he provided everything and he lives there :)

I have painted and camped at the same time, but to be honest the painting suffers because there's much less time to do it; need to be set up before dark etc. I was working until 9pm most evenings.

  • heres a site map showing unit 1

  • More stuff to see here

  • I'll try and make it down there this time - Sat 5pm ?

  • Yep, that's around the time I'm planning on opening my first one :)

  • We made it after a bit of a trek through the wild East (and one broken spoke for bsb)

Great paintings, thanks for the beers!
