  • A ride that starts in Gdynia and ends in Tallinn.

We will take the train from Copenhagen to Karlskrona and take the ferry from Karlskrona to Gdynia.

100-120km average per day. Camp/Sleep how you want.

72 hour visum is needed to cross the Russian enclave Kaliningrad.

Some of us might join the last days of the I LAND SOUND festival in Estonia http://ilandsound.ee/

Simple draft of the route - has not been worked through https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26695433

  • Fixed?

  • No rules

  • in if it involves singletrack, doubletrack, and as little paving as humanly possible

  • But you will, right? You cray-cray.

  • Don’t know anything about the trail conditions in that area but it would very cool to do Helsinki-st Petersburg-Tallinn. You could take a ferry back to Helsinki too.

  • I'm a proud walker when I ran out of gear

  • Interested & subscribed sounds like an adventure!

+1 for 'as little paving as humanly possible'

Status: Flying with bike to Murmansk and head west towards Finland along the Murmansk river. 2 degrees north of the polar circle, which means the sun stays on sky during the night.

I am trying to contact bike-wizards in Murmansk through the warmshowers.org network, to hear more about the R11 state-way bikefriendlyness and the mosquito situation in July. Degrees should be around 16-17 degrees during daytime, but with 9 days of rain on average.

  • I spend a lot of time in Finnish Lapland (my wife's family has a house there). Mosquitos in Juky will be bonkers. For hiking you really need a facenet, long trousers (ideally very dense cotton weave) amd thick long sleeved shirts. The first time I went hiking there at the same time of year they were biting me through a synthetic baselayer!

Guess you can outrun them on a bike, but bring nets and stuff for camping. I'd still recommend the trip - amazing scenery and very little traffic. Plus some nice gravel roads in some places.

  • Looks interesting. The eurovelo 13 hugs the Russian-Finnish border but stays on the Finnish side. One could take it to the bottom of Finland and then head west to Helsinki. Might be a boring ride though.

  • Thanks for your thoughts @Momentum @mulv

The route has changed a small bit and now features 5 countries on the Baltic coast and around 1200km. Mostly asphalt in the east european condition and some light gravel.

  • I’ve begun the process of applying for the 72 hours visa for entering Russia.

  • you're hitting Riga a month or so too early http://cmwc2018.com/en/

  • This sounds fun, I'll think about it

  • Interesting talk, however I'm not a fan of the mozzies

  • New route doesn't include them as much afaik

  • Yeah the original post was a Murmansk route to Finland - the talk about mosquitos made me alter to a non-mozzie route.

Come along for a small taste of iron curtain, Tzars, 1400 AD sail and trade unions.
