  • After a fraught few days leading up to Fight On Factory Road II it became clear I wouldn't have to cancel or change the venue on account of poor weather.

Weather gods playing nice, I loaded my bag with Canopy Beer Co brews, warm clothes and headed into town.

19:00: Crews and individual riders started rolling in from all sides. We enjoyed a few drinks on the steps of St. Paul's as the sun sunk away reminding us that despite the date, in the shade it was still winter.

20:00: 40 of us rolled out on a social spin down to London City Airport collecting more riders on our way.

    AREA 1:
On a quiet weekend for London we still managed to get 30 riders onto our starting sheets (heard there was this other event in New York..).

After allowing the competitors to check out the lane I rallied them in the starting area to get things underway.

The format was 1 vs 1 fixed gear drag-sprints from a rolling start with me giving the racers a final push as they blasted off.

From the riotous noise bouncing back to me I guessed we were seeing some exciting action. My own eyes were blind to the spectacle as I readied further pairs of racers.

    AREA 2:
Cutting the field in half we moved over to the sugar factory on the street that bears it's name to further winnow the contestants for the final stage. After few more great match-ups and a funny conversation with a bored but cool security guard it was time to take this race to the next level (down).

    BOSS LEVEL:
Sometime after 11 when Woolwich was dead we descended to our final subterranean setting. Stillness and silence under the Thames in the Woolwich Foot Tunnel broken by disparate musical styles blasting out of personal systems, the cheering crowd and the organisers shouting to each other beyond the curve of the tunnel.

At 2.8 metres wide with a short run-out and a crowd creeping ever closer to the finish line, our winners needed every ounce of assertion and will to beat their opponent.

Final match done we ascended to the Southside to announce the winners.

It was too late and too cold for the planned pier party so we dished out the prizes and dashed off into the night.

    RESULTS (M):
    Final Boss: Marlon (Défi Colective)
Mini Boss: Max (Full Denim Jacket)
    Thug: Ellis (Full Denim Jacket)
    RiserLyf: Patrick (Fixed Gear London)

    RESULTS (F):
    Final Boss: Jess
    Mini Boss: Caz (NLTCBMBC)
    Thug: Veroni
    RiserLyf: Jess

I want to do this again midsummer (If I can find a date..)
