  • Well, it's happening again. By now, the mad scramble for tickets will have finished and the only chances of getting in are a) the waiting list or b) signing up as a marshal.

This is the first one where none of the original organisers are directly involved (Ted handed it over to Bourne and Hollingsworth after the last one to pay for his wedding suit enjoy a more relaxed life in Berlin). The new constraints imposed by TFL last year are still in place (not allowed to form one huge tweedy peloton). There will be about 200 more riders this year than last year (which saw a 200 increase over the year before). So marshalling will be a challenge.

So post here if you want to

    1. Sign up as a marshal
    2. Bitch about not having a ticket
    3. Gloat about having a ticket
    4. Bitch about people riding around in tweed

  • I'm one of the lucky ones who have got a place 😁. My outfit is all sorted, new plus 2s, bow tie and pocket square. Just need to give my 1966 Moulton a proper clean.

    May is not far away.

  • Well, I certainly do hope that you weren’t trying to undertake any marshalling situation without the legendary M.T. on board, Bruce. Also, surely it can’t get that much more challenging than the stage I ran last year. The last three markers were two members of the public along with myself! Another two hundred riders will make it all the more interesting. Don’t you think?

  • Is your bassmaster email address still working? I did include you in the "call to arms" email. I can be contacted at tweed.run@bandhgroup.com - B&H don't seem to have the old Tweed Run email addresses working.

  • No Jacqui either?

  • I don't have a ticket but I'm going to ride my mtb along the wrong side of the road in a mackenzie track suit with an adidas manbag drinking alcopops puffing spice & pulling mad wheeleyz

Oh wait, that's the Grey Marl Run, my bad.

  • Not since 2013

  • It's funny how Tweed Run 1 was a forum ride and now it has almost no lfgss presence.

  • I'm signed up for marshalling again. Enjoyed it very much last year.

  • You can all turn up if you want to, a la Skully, as it's on open roads these days, tfl won't let them close roads off ...

I went last year in an official capacity I must add..., and just as James says it's a long way from the first one... Forum-wise that weekend is all about the Thundercrit gig.

Peace and love to all cyclists...

  • The roads have never been closed off for it.

It grew. The people who started it opened it up beyond the forum and a broader community has developed around it. Carping about that is missing the point. There has always been (and still is) a strong forum presence among the marshals, as can be seen from many pictures. Alongside them are people who have been contributing to the eventop as volunteers/marshals for several years now without ever signing up on LFGSS. All things Ted and Jacqui could be proud of.

There's no guarantee the spirit of the event will survive the increasingly corporate aspects. There's a wide community now that would regret that.

  • Greetings folks,

This is my first telling off by the lovely Bruce....

Now then the tweed run used to operate as an all moving together ride, a la critical mass. Marshalls corking all the junctions so everyone moved as one. That is my reference to 'roads being closed'...

This is now no longer the case. You are now in amongst the moving traffic with people moving not all as one to the next tea / lunch stop. Last year I witnessed many people arriving and meeting their mates and joining the ride - just not being able to get a cup of tea or picnic with the official tweed punters. Joining people is just a phone call away these days after all. That is my reference to 'You can all turn up if you want to'...

Bruce is a lovely person - if you are on this ride, please obey what he asks you to do.

Rides change, the forum changes. That's life...

    Peace and love,
    Tim

  • https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/284639/Have 2 tickets going spare if anyone is interested?

  • Me and @photoben will be dusting off the photo chariot once again this year.
Be prepared for frenzied overtaking, a few clipped curbs and badass cornering leans....
Nothing will top the very first run so it's fun just to see the evolution of the event now.

  • ^wot he said. Looking forward to it.

  • If anyone has unwanted 32 waist plus twos (tweed obvz), hit me up!

  • Got some 34s, you can hit the pizza and beers before hand?
They also might be plus 4s, never remember what the difference is

  • Been trying my whole life, it's a challenge putting on weight! Thanks

  • I also have a spare pare of plus 2s that should fit a 32" waist.

@PQR the difference is the amount of fabric doubled over in the fold at the bottom. Plus 2s are better for cycling or riding because there's less chance of it snagging or chafing. Plus 4s are more comfortable for walking.

  • bumped into them on Ken High St. I don't think the guy I was chatting to had any idea what I was talking about when I said I was on the first in 2009.

  • into the tweed run before it was cool?

    hipster thread >>>>>>>>>>>

  • It was a fun day as ever.
Good to see Bruce, Ian and the other forumengers still involved.
Me and Ben picked up someones lapel pin right before the start, shredded the tube 'scobling it back onto the rim and due to needing to get the pics we ended up doing the first 4 miles on a flat front tyre. Quick stop at Fitzrovia for a new tube and changed at lunch.
Organisation felt very different obviously without Teddy involved. Having to stop for all the lights ended up chopping the group up pretty badly after lunch though with some people arriving at the finish an hour after us.
    Presumably photos are easily found.

  • ^ yep the worst or the 'chopping up of the group' was at sloane square where we had to stop the traffic to let groups through. it still took about 30mins in total. I counted about 150 bikes going through in a minute, & about 30 cars - so who was holding up who?
There was a last minute (first i knew of it was as i rode through) route change just before smithfields which was a bit disconcerting, and unfortunately no one to point a left turn into st john street, so a hundred or more people went through heavy traffic. was a bit hairy with some young kids having to do a right turn across clerkenwell rd.

still enjoyed the day, but preferred earlier years. didn't feel too 'corporate' as some were predicting but so many people made it all a bit unwieldy
