  • I’m doing this, hopefully in one big bite. Would dearly love fellow riders to join me, I can put you up in Amsterdam for a night if that helps.
    dm if interested!!

  • I wish you bon courage! 5 beaufort tailwind will be helpful, although also some wetness in the forecast.

  • Thanks!!!

  • If you have time and enjoy modern art there's a fantastic gallery and sculpture park in Dunkirk. Free entry and virtually empty when I was there.

  • i do like modern art…
    thanks!

  • And if you are hungry, go there and enjoy their meals and yoghurts.
"La ferme de Malo", 65 avenue Faidherbe.
    Best shop in the city.

Or go to "Trattoria chez Gino", a little bit costly but wonderful meals. The chicken stuffed with mushrooms and creamy sauce is a must.

  • Just clicked the link I attached and it does not do it justice. If you haven't already, 'google images' LAAC Dunkirk for much better idea of how interesting it is.

  • oh my, slightly daunting prospect, not least get up at 4 to get the 6 ferry. not exactly fresh today. need a strong west wind

  • You'll be fine once you're in the saddle. Although the wind mighy be a problem

  • Hope all goes well - planning to do the same in Spring, good luck with the early start !

  • Thank you both!!!

  • Good luck with this! Enjoy!

  • Fair play, that's a decent ride. I split it up over 3 days a few summers ago!

  • Just bailed 40km out at Leiden. A few things caused me problems. First, I got caught in freezing showers and a head wind crossing the islands. This required a stop for some additional food and a cry. Then, after a period feeling better, I got unlucky with the Muisland ferry crossing which wasted an extra 40 very cold minutes on top of it’s regular 30 minute turnaround. Still something like 285km including the sketchy ride from canterbury to dover at 3.30am

  • Fuck me that sounds like an epic roller coaster ride. 285km in these conditions, by your self(!) is both jaw dropping impressive and completely insane. Hats off.

  • thanks mate! bailing in Leiden was the right call bc when i got off the train in amsterdam it was at least another two degrees colder and sleeting: the fifteen minutes to home in that was enough!
