At 1:55 in on that video, the first time I did the trail my left foot slipped off the pedal on the transition and I landed bollocks first on my top tube...
Here's a better shot video from Ranmore:

Alright then, anyone fancy pointing me in the general direction of some nice easy jumps to re-learn on? And I might be buying a stem shorter than 120mm soon...

We can do practice jumps that day on other trails than the ones featured above. And no-one has to do the jump sections on the more technical trails anyway, they can be avoided.

Oh yes this looks rad and it's likely I'll have my build complete with dropper by then!
So excited.

Good to see we have a few interested. :-)
One thing though, if it's been raining a lot prior to the ride or if it rains the day of the ride we shall not be doing Ranmore Common, only Redlands and Leith Hill. Ranmore is a chalky beast and best avoided when it's been raining. -
• #10
Aww, but wet chalk is soo much fun to ride on ;P

Quick question though, what time do you guys usually set off? It's gonna take me a while to get there (trains early in the morning, yay!)
-
• #12
Actually, never mind, I can't make it 😔

• #13

Go tubeless and never have another pinch flat.
Then all you get is dented rims....

Also - where the hell is this?!
-
• #19
Ranmore Common.
-
• #20
Well, yeah...but where? Slightly different to the trails I've ridden around that way.
-
• #21
It's easier for me to show you where they are than tell you.

I only have a very rough itinerary that consists of riding Redlands between 11am - 1pm, Leith Hill between 1pm to 3pm, then Ranmore between 3pm - 5pm. But this is all open to rejigging on the day. I'll probably be driving down that day and parking near Dorking train station.
If you have to leave at around 2pm then you should be able to get back on either Coldharbour Lane or the A25 from Leith for a direct road route back to Dorking. -

You can meet us at Nirvana if you want, we'll be going past there on the way to Redlands.

No probs.
Here's another video of trails on Ranmore from a Banshee bikes demo day at Nirvana Cycles:
And old video from Leith Hill and Redlands from four years ago. Some of the trails featured in that vid no longer exist, I think, but some might be recoverable:

By the way, there is a ride going from Gomshall tomorrow with the gang I usually ride with, at around 10am. If anyone wants to join us you're welcome.

Plan is to meet at Dorking Main Station at around 10am on Saturday 19th of September and head out to Redlands Woods, then onto Leith Hill, finally going through Ranmore Common before heading back to Dorking train station at about 5 or 6pm.
@t_w - this still the plan? Will bring a propper bike this time
So, another guided ride in the Surrey Hills. Plan is to meet at Dorking Main Station at around 10am on Saturday 19th of September and head out to Redlands Woods, then onto Leith Hill, finally going through Ranmore Common before heading back to Dorking train station at about 5 or 6pm. Some of the trails that will be done this time are more demanding than many done on previous rides; expect large roller coaster sections, steep drops, jumps. But if you come and don't want to do these kinds of trail features then they can generally be avoided. I'll let everyone know beforehand and the trail can be walked first.
