  • Aphex Twin jokes aside this is 30 mile hilly ride in Surrey with 4 climbs big including the 18% Whitedown. So that is kind of steep but the ride will be pretty fun. There are some serious descents (we go down Whitedown before we go up it) and it might be wet so please be sensible on this one.

I'll be navigating from the Garmin instead of harden experience so pleased don't ride off the front as I really don't want to chase you down if you take a wrong turn.

Train leave 7.02 from Waterloo (meet under the big clock) - this is earlier than normal because it's a bit of a ride out (about 40 mins).

    Trains back are 10:23, 10:53, 11:03 and 11:23.

    Who's in?

  • Beech ave/Critten Ln is closed for some road works; bikes can go past but the left side of the road is unusable; take care descending.

  • Can't see the date.

  • Oh yes I should also say gears are more than welcome.

  • Thanks for the heads up @amey

@winnifred1849 it's right at the top. Anyway it's tomorrow night.

  • In!

  • I know, for some reason it's scrambled.

  • Well done YAL...

What's that extra squiqqly bit towards Cranleigh for? Dogging spot?

  • Route now updated due to accidentally inserting (snigger) the Secret Surrey Dogging Spot.

  • Beech ave/Critten Ln is closed for some road works

Hopefully that means re-surfacing. It's about time that stretch was done.

  • My inner Michael Fish tells me that the rain will just about stop in time for the ride, but still be very careful on the descents as the tree cover means the lanes will probably stay wet for a long time after. Be particularly careful on Whitedown as the hairpin which gets very slippy and the lower part of Abinger Lane which is quite "technical".

  • No hurricanes then?

  • I'm excited for this.

If you're taking the train out from Waterloo at 7:02 put yer name on the list:

    1. YAL

    2. etc
    1. YAL
    2. cgg

The lecturer seems keen on talking longer and longer these days, not sure I'll make it to Waterloo :(

  • .sorting out my own ticket as prob won't be enough for a group save anyway

  • On the train so there around 740ish

  • Our courage has been rewarded, fuck me it's nice evening

  • If I keep this up imma go full page howrad

  • Ok were at Effingham, give it until bit past 8 and then might head out...

  • Whitedown nbd

  • Bigger, missed this.

  • And what a ride it was! Thanks YAL for leading it.

    Dry sky
    Wet road
Had to dismount twice (riser bars and toe-clips just didn't cut it)

    10/10 would ride again.

  • Whitedown nbd

    Which direction?

  • Neither, it was sketchy going down and hard going up. But I was feeling pleased with myself last night and that led to the above casual posting

This was the only photo that came out. It's dark pretty much all the time now it seems:
