Steel touring frame (Claud Butler) - size 56

Posted on
  • Selling a steel frame in a beautiful green paint. I don't know if it is actually CB, but it came with those decals when I bought it. The quality is really good, with 531c tubing for the frame and 531 for the fork and suntour dropouts.

When I bought it, it had just been restored and was in perfect conditions, bar a small dent on the top tube. I have then built it as a tourer and used it moderately (about 1500 km), which shows in paint being chipped in a few spots due to contact with bags, chain or tyre. Will put photos below.

When building it, I found it quite difficult to find the right brakes for it. I am including some Shimano cantis that work well, so that you won't have to go through all the trouble :)

I am based in Cambridge but I can ship.

    What's included:

    • frame + fork (56 cm c-c seat tube, 57 cm c-c top tube)
    • stronglight headset (serviced) + cable guide
    • shimano CX50 canti brakes (all spacers included, one of the link cables missing)
    • 130 mm ITM Eclypse stem

Fits tyres up to 700x35c (according to my experience)

    SOLD

  • this is fabulous - a better looking, better made LHT for a third of the price...if it were an inch smaller I'd buy it now. Bump, GLWS

  • What size tyres did you have fitted to this?

  • I had 700x35c which I think is the max size it takes

  • Wish this came up a few weeks ago and I hadn't spent more money on a frame which isn't as nice.

  • Lowered to £80

  • Hi - when you say you had trouble fitting brakes - does this include trying mini v's? And, do you have any idea of max tyre size with guards?

    Cheers

  • Hello, when I built it I had an initial go at v-brakes and then decided to go for the cantis. I didn't try buying some mini v's, but right now I can't remember why I made this decision. THe issue is with the fork studs, which are quite close together (see photo here).

As for the tyres, there's still room for guards with 35c, but I have never mounted any.

  • Sick frame, great price!

  • Nice bike/frame. Why the reason for the sale outta interest? Did it not work as a tourer?

  • This is now sold
