Rivnut in carbon frame (seatstay)

Posted on
  • One of the rear mudguard eyelets (just above the rear dropout on the seatstay) on my carbon frame is spinning. The previous owner used crappy bolts which clearly seized into the thread and trying to extract it has made the thread itself spin in the frame. The corroded bolt is still there.

I think the job is to drill it out and install a new rivnut. I am no stranger to building bikes and can do most jobs but this might be one to contract out (esp as the seatstay is relatively thin).

Could anyone recommend a workshop that could handle that sort of thing in London (south east even better)?

    Thank you in advance!

  • Interesting - prob is the corroded bolt is still in there so can't even get to the rivnut (and my usual tricks for releasing corroded bolts inc screw extractors etc won't work because it just spins in the frame)

  • Carbon bike repair in Leatherhead will do it. They did a rivnut in carbon job for me all good.

  • You could try a dab of epoxy to hold it so you can have a go at getting the bolt out...
