Never done it before but I’ve stuffed my bike box with clothes and tools as well as a bike and never had an issue. I assume you’ve already looked at your airline’s bulky luggage policy? Bikes might be included in checked luggage but not bulky misc luggage.

I'd check with the airline first, and see what their policy is, especially relating to works of art.

randomest thing I have smuggled in a bike box (ages ago now) is an entire serrano ham. Was totally fine.

I've flown with my bike boxes full of random stuff before with no issue. Then again, the random stuff wasn't power supplies and cables and shit.
Also, if your "art" is full of cocaine or something you may have a different experience.

You specifically book a bike on as sports equipment, I guess it depends if there is a concession on sports equipment vs other cargo.
I've never flown with a bike before so hoping to get some anecdotal or even well-informed advice..
I make techy sculptures and I want to transport one on a flight in the coming weeks. A hard bike travel case is the perfect size for this thing. Is it likely to get held up at the airport? I'm imagining airline security looking at the X-ray of what is obviously a bike travel case and seeing it full of industrial looking power supplies and radiators and fans and so on and holding it up.
Any thoughts appreciated!
