The Breakfast Thread

  • My brother & I are planning a trip to Stuggart in November for my 40th, and we debated which method we should use for the crossing.

Beef Brenda was mentioned, and the result was the Ferry based on the breakfast.

Here is a wonderful breakfast picture to get the ball rolling.

  • Go with whichever ferry offers the closest breakfast to the picture

  • This was my woeful attempt to start a wider breakfast thread

  • Overnight oats, made with water. Peanut butter and golden syrup to take the edge off.

    Toast at the weekend.

    I had kedgeree once.

  • Freshly laid bantam eggs boiled or fried on a Sourdough slice

  • Two bits of toast, buttered, one with Vegemite one with smooth pics pb.
Cup of tea and two double espressos.

  • For that gentle caffeine nudge to get you going

  • I sound like a real addict but I usually don't have another coffee all day...

  • That is very close to the platonic ideal of an English breakfast I reckon. I might sub one black pudding slice for some haggis, but not sure could be really improved.

  • I would eat the breakfast in your op image every day (mixing up black pudding with occasional Haggis), however that would kill me within a few weeks.

So it is usually strong black coffee with a bowl of Greek yoghourt, seasonal fruit, mixed nuts and seeds (chia, flax, sunflower and pumpkin)

(Used to eat oats with that but oats give me a glucose spike)

  • Went down the porridge recipe rabbit hole last night.

    Machine cut or rolled oats.

  • Have you tried machine cut? As lower GI.

  • Together?

  • Thanks for tip Lynx. Wonder why that is?

Another recommendation is to use organic oats as standard oats are particularly susceptible to traces of agri-chems

  • Wondered that too, but never got more than the oats are processed less. Hence longer to cook and longer to digest so lower glycaemic load.

Also check that flanahan Irish oats are machine cut and not rolled, as I was buying some and ended up at Holland and Barrett

  • I got a porridge spurtle as a gift and I swear it actually makes it better.

  • On Topic, last week did Hull - Rotterdam, unfortunately with P&O but the buffet breakfast could match your picture.

  • Everyone I has seen on a ferry is all buffer style and equivalent to a Toby breakfast at 3 times the price

  • Off breakfast topic - I refuse to use P&O offerings after the 2022 mass firing.

On breakfast topic - I have amassed quite a few bantam eggs this week. Might try a breakfast egg burrito
