Frameset sold, tenner off the wheelset.
I’m trying (once again) to rationalise the bikes in my fleet and this is a case of last in, first out.
Started off as a Raleigh Record Ace and I’ve given it a a fair amount of attention.
Chainstay chop chop to increase tyre clearance. A 45mm tyre fits comfortably with room to spare for a mudguard. Reckon you could go up to 50mm/2” if you wanted. I also removed and replaced the seat stay bridge to give more tyre clearance.
Brake bosses fitted along with a single sided cable stop.
Rear mech cable routing altered to remove the need for a stepped ferrule/work better with a modern mech. It’s now bare cable down the downtube with a stop at the bottom of the downtube where it goes into outer and that runs all the way to the rear derailleur.
Pump pip added to headtube for carrying of a frame pump.
Downtube shifter bosses added. I’ll include cable guides to go on these and/or I have a set of Shimano shift levers, these came without the concave washer required to fit them and as I was only using the front one I only bought one.
Additional toptube added. This tube was the top tube off a ladies Rudge thatI believe was from the 1930s.
Additional mixte type stays added to the rear end.
The fork is a Pashley fork, rim brake bosses added to the rear of the legs (this means you need to use a v brake up front).
Truss reinforcement and rack fabricated for the fork.
Fork will clear a 45mm tire with a bit of room for mud, it’s right at the sides so if you want to run deep guards then dripping to 40mm might be better.
I’ll include the headset which was bought for this build so it’s literally 2 or 3 rides old. It’s a Tange Seiki sealed bearing threaded headset.
Wheelset is a pair of Rigida Sputnik rims laced to a Superstar Road 2 rear hub (32h, 10speed cassette compatible) and an Alfine Dynamo front hub (36h, Centrelock disc compatible).
