There was a similar thread on singletrack a while ago, may or may not be some useful info:

I asked pretty much identical question on the skateboard thread back in the summer
Slam city skates seemed the consensus for online purchases

Won’t matter until you are both TomPenny
I used to skate a lot with M.A.S. (Middle age shred) it’s a forum very much like this one but about skateboarding.
Take it easy, get wrist guards

All the cool kids are on 8”+ these days. Deck size comes and goes in fashion.
8” will be plenty big enough for you both.I’m a uk 8 shoe and only rode 7.6-7.75 as a yoot but they’re now essentially obsolete.

Don’t listen to these mugs. You want a massive whale tail G&S deck like this. It’s so big you literally can’t fail to land on it 👍

There are some entry level boards still on sale at Evans, no harm spending a tenner to see if it suits you/daughter.

I’d steer clear of things like that. It’s the equivalent of the supermarket BSO mtb.
It’ll feel slow, lifeless and won’t get anyone stoked to learn.
A basic complete from one of the big legit skate brands is the only budget option. It’ll have a resale value as well if you/daughter don’t get into it.
Hey,
Me : 5.11 , size 8 uk - can ride but can’t do any tricks. What size board would be good for me as a beginner? (Aged53!)
Daughter: 5ft 5 and 5.5uk - beginner too (aged 13)
What size boards etc should we be looking for- anything out there for sale?
Thanks in advance for some advice 👍🙌
