Thoughts needed: More signs for cyclists?

  • It has been suggested to me that rather than offering cycle training to adults, funds would be better spent on installing signs along cycleways with messages like "it is illegal to ride without lights" and that this would improve cyclist safety & cycling uptake.

I'm doubtful, but trying to be open minded. All my reading around the subject points towards either less signs or positive messaging on signs.

What are peoples thoughts and experiences around increasing behavioural awareness signage along cycle routes? Any case studies I've overlooked?

    Ta.

  • In terms of road danger reduction signs ought to be directed at drivers

Though as a principle signs are the last resort, good design can affect behaviour better

  • Yes, understood & thanks.

My thinking is that a series of signs on cycleways for rules that could be broken isn't likely to be effective as the suggestion maker thanks.
