I have these two modified Girvin Flex Stems that I’d like to move on. They were a fun project and did work pretty well to take out the vibration and harshness off bumps but I’ve not been using them lately so thought I’d offer them here.
They were quill stems with 25.4mm handlebar clamp originally, they are now 1 1/8” and 31.8mm.
They are definitely not without their…quirks(?), when I made them at first the pivot bolts would loosen themselves off pretty rapidly, I think this was due to the bits within the pivot being seized so they weren’t working right, I’ve sorted that by cleaning up and greasing the bushings and stuff but still worth keeping an eye on. The shorter one was creaking last time I used it, maybe a bit more grease or some oil around the pivots would help.
The rubbers are quite soft but having shortened the stems has lessened the leverage on them so I think they are ok. The shorter one has a bit of skate bushing in behind the original rubber, not sure it’s really doing very much.
Stack height is bang on 50mm on the longer one, about 51mm on the shorter one.
Lengths are about 85mm and 105mm. I did the steerer clamp a bit differently on them so they could be swapped around which would make them both about 95mm I think.
£40 each or £65 for the pair including postage to you.
