You have lots of time before the trip, could you look into getting your bikes or other stuff sent over to the destination? Whenever I have taken my own bike on a trip overseas it has always been worth the drag of it. The easiest times I've done it was to not pack the bike and just ride it into the airport then talk to staff about how to board it on the flight. Different airlines, different staff have different 'rules' it seems! Ended up being covered in plastic sheet, loaded panniers included. When I have packed it down it becomes a big box to lug around, rather than a mode of transport if that makes sense :)

British airways have quite lax rules about bikes, check their website

I have a scicon aerocomfort soft bag that has an internal frame, it is a good compromise between size and protection.
You could take the bike out at the airport, lock it up, fold the bag up and shove it in the car, drop the family off then come back and pick the bike up later.

If your main issue is airport to accommodation - then suck it up and get one adult to do back and forth trips on the excellent bus service (TIB) while adult 2 guards remaining stuff & children. Even the small buses have space for bike boxes. Big ones have huge luggage stores underneath.
If you have the luxury of a car or cars (?!?
"Cars from airport" ) then the other adult and children, once the remaining stuff pile can fit in, drive to destination. Also if you have lots of luggage - fly BA.
I’m gonna be doing an extended trip in Mallorca in April - will be there for a month. I’m travelling with my wife and two small kids. It seems that adding bikes to the amount of stuff that we will need will be hard, especially in relation to cars from the airport etc. Anyone have any tips for this or ways round it? The cost for renting a bike for that period is basically the same as buying one!
