  • So after I sold my last motocross bike I said that was me done, I wasn’t buying another.

Then I got the bug and needed to get a mid 90s project to do this winter.

    Here we are.

I have bought a CR125 in a bunch of boxes.

Frame and rear end have been powdercoated off the bat, and the suspension dropped off at the tuners to get serviced, valved to my weight and anodised.

1st issue I’ve had with it, is the rear shock shaft is bent, person who sold it obvs knew but didn’t crack on. So there the first more expensive thing on it and trying to track down a new one is a bit of a fuckin shit mare

I’m gonna do some videos and will upload this with photos too.

  • Excellent, I’ve subscribed to this thread.

  • Not much movement right now, I have dropped the suspension off and the rear shock im struggling to get a shaft for it and another shock is proving not the easiest to get.

The hunt continues until I have that back I cant really start building the roller chassis up.

  • Nice. Looking forward to the build.

  • Please add a mood board to help us all share in the excitement of your final vision.

  • Super cool! Will you be going for the excellent original 90s aesthetic?

  • I am here for all the 90s vibes.

  • Me too!

  • So small update and ill add some examples of what im looking for the end result.

I was thinking of building it like the 1992 Jeremy McGrath Pro Circuit bikes but Im not using a PC front pipe so it would maybe look a bit daft. I'm using a front pipe called a JSV from holland which are better suited to the UK/Euro tracks and have better bottom end. The PC stuff is more for the fast american tracks and won't work as well and either PC carbon back box or a FMF.

So colour scheme it'll be probs more like the JM CR250's.

  • Wheels have been powder coated black, but I might rebuild them with stainless spokes and gold rims from excel again now sure. Gonna try and get the roller up and running in the next few weeks.

  • Gold rims for sure. People always slate the gold rims now on the Suzuki's but I love them.

Although saying that, the 1-800 collect liveries are cool but the standard bike from 1995 looked amazing as it was. That livery and the silver wheels were a winner.

1995 is a good year as well as Super Evo is up to 1997 so the later bikes are very desirable.

  • Sweet project. I looove 125 MX bikes and mid-90s Hondas are a sweet spot. Do you know the eye to eye length on the shock? Might be easier to swap another one in. There's a few on US ebay, if the sellers don't want to ship, I could DHL one for you. Doubt it would be more than 30 bucks.

    I love the 1-800 livery.

  • This is the list of the shock lengths, my shock is good I basically need a shaft for mine as I said earlier its bent. Either a CR125 or CR250 from 95 will fit. I think with everything on these you just need to be patient or else you pay daft money.

I thought I had found a TM Ohlins shock, but i spoke to kais and they were so slow at replying to tell me if the shock could be converted I missed it.

There is a 95 on ebay but with shipping it becomes pricey https://www.ebay.com/itm/275840838078?hash=item40396529be:g:NtsAAOSwmGJkVx1J&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4KKRP%2BxJLFjALyvMAkaYZLVw%2B7zcYSG8aFwfTX7jzBY8Y%2BjiKNRsaUaE1jlaI7JXDscHq1g%2FZJ7YLx7xDB3XE5P516Uc53i1EaggTBDgUOz1Eril5FEf7F9kzj4xmL1%2FgRRRxcsOEndifXhC%2FGZchc3ayPSOoAy4yumNAFVynoVK%2F%2FTeDVUSoZJ%2BBbwvsUr93%2BmdZxZI1ML7RP4REKJsqA40FbQYyqWycmivCJHKl0PqXllQO%2BpDRUFj5YP2euq7mnHfJWN6FRILxqkxTD4TWc1dg3jhraMsP2k3LwWvlIvu%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8aHjrTqYg

  • Seems like I now have some Gold Talons coming for the build.

  • Very nice. Those exact wheels?

  • Came today, don’t love the big talon logos on the rims but hey ho.

    They are nice and shiny.

  • Those are BLING. Nice. I'm with you on the talon stickers, I'd probably peel them if I could. Gold rims look great on Hondas. I've seen few graphics kits available that are updates on the old Blue / Red / Gold 80s liveries. Dead cool, but big bucks.

  • The sad thing is that they are etched into the gold, annoying.

  • After 6 weeks or so since buying the box of bits. I’ve finally got a rear shock for it!

Might even be able to build it into a roller soon.

  • Some sort of matching filler/ paint to dull down the etching a bit?
Surely a detailer would have a top tip - (or youtube)

  • Picked up my forks and shock today. £320 lighter after a service and anodised uppers and im not happy.

Forks were meant to look like this and im positive they haven't been anodised they have been cerokoted. Should have used my usual guy, they look ok but they aren't anodised im sure of it.

  • These aren’t anodised, postive they are cerakoted

Cr in the left, anodised mtb on the right just back from someone else.
